Agenda for the day
Jan. 14th, 2007 01:08 pmAt the beginning of each school year, students at the school where I teach are issued agendas - spiral bound calendars for the year. Just for the sake of encouraging them to use said agendas, I inform them that if they ever want to know my age, they'll have to ask me on my birthday. If the date is on a weekend or holiday, they may ask on the next day school is in session.
Well, this year was no different. I haven't said anything about it to them since the first week of school and am wondering if anyone will remember to ask my age next Tuesday. Hee hee hee. One kid said "Have a happy birthday" before leaving class on Friday, so I expect at least he will.
Now for the catch. The manner in which I tell them my age is in the form of an algebraic equation. A simple one, of course.
Disclaimer: This is in no means a hint to friends to remember my b-day, or a request for well wishes, though they will be most welcome. The older I get, the less interest I have in celebrating another year's passing, other than to consider it another year of life - which is a very good thing. No need for parties, just another milestone. Not a millstone.
Thanks for listening,
h
