Of Moms and Carotid Arteries - Update
Nov. 1st, 2007 05:56 amA few weeks ago, my Mom had an brain episode that caused her to briefly lose the ability to speak. It was very brief. By the time the paramedics arrived, and loaded her into the ambulance, it was over. However, they wanted to see what caused the problem. They did the usual scans and things and discovered a 95% blockage in the carotid artery on one side. Naturally this meant that Mom needed to have that fixed. Well, today is the day. Mom and Dad have headed out and are by now at the hospital where the procedure will be done. They expect all to go well and Mom should be home tomorrow. The daughter, of course, is worried for the Mom. Well, worried might be a bit too strong of a word, but concerned. Hoping everything goes well. Ok. Worried. Mom is 76. That's not ancient yet, but it's not young either. Her Mom died at 79. The daughter isn't quite ready to let the Mom leave just yet. Another 10 years would be nice.
Here's hoping the doctors have steady hands and all goes well. In short, a dull, boring, uneventful operation.
Prayers and good thoughts welcome.
Update - Mom came out of surgery fine and is in her room resting. Gets to go home tomorrow.
*sigh* Everything went ok.
