A "Peaceful" Religion
Nov. 28th, 2007 03:15 pmPardon me while I rant.
Has anyone else read the story about the British teacher who was arrested in Sudan for naming a teddy bear Mohammad? Basically it goes like this: A teacher brought a teddy bear to her class of mostly 7 year olds. They would take turns taking the bear home and then write about the bear. During class, they decided to name the bear. After a vote, they named it Mohammad. All went fine until the extremely devout parents of one student complained. Then it hit the fan for this teacher. She was arrested for insulting islam and sentenced to 40 lashes. The sentence has yet to be carried out, but naturally there is an uproar. Plenty of people working on her behalf are trying to get her released from jail. But she should never have been arrested in the first place!!! What is it with these zealots?! Do they really want to be like the Catholic church during the time of the inquisition?!
*huff, grumble, growl*
Okay, enough ranting for one day.
Thanks for listening.
Update: The "Teddy Bear Teacher" was sentenced to 15 days in prison and will be deported back to Briton. Gracious, we can't have such insulting, dangerous, seditious, blasphemous people in our holy land.
Sheesh. Remind me to stay out of the Sudan. I'm thinking of getting a dog and calling it Moh.

Date: 2007-11-28 10:10 pm (UTC)In some countries in which I have lived and traveled, the penalty for blaspheming the Prophet M. is death. Indeed, not peaceful.
