Yesterday, June 14, my parents celebrated their 50th anniversary. We, the two brothers and I, threw them a party, or reception if you prefer. It was held in the fellowship hall of the church Mom and Dad attend, so I suppose reception might be a better word, but I'm calling it a party. Dan, older brother, counted 86 signatures in the guest book, which sounds about right. We weren't sure how many to plan for, so we loaded up on cake and sandwich goodies. We'll be eating turkey, ham and roast beef sandwiches for the next 2 weeks, most likely.

Over all, the party went well. Some of my friends met some of Mom and Dad's friends, and some of the family met some of both the other groups. Everyone ate as much as they wanted while Rob, the younger brother, played guitar. My pastor and his wife sang Las MaƱanitas, a traditional Mexican mariachi song sung for any celebratory occasion. I had invited them to sing for the 49th, but the schedules didn't work out and Dad warned that he couldn't guarantee their reception if they showed up at 7:30 in the morning, singing.

Mom is recovering from her triple bypass surgery and was able to visit to her newly circulating heart's content. Frankly, we're all just glad she's still here.

We could accurately say that a quietly good time was had by all. Now it's time to start planning for the 60th. Hee hee hee...
