at least of the ones I've written. I'm feeling cranky right now. Don't really know why. But then again, yes I do. *sigh* Irritability comes around like a phase of the moon.

Wake Up (and kill a mocking bird)

When in the morn,
And I awake
A bird at times
Into song will break

Ah! Such a song, so jubilant,
So happy and so sweet,
Does early this bright morning
Rouse my soul to greet.

I cannot but allow the urge
To get up from my bed,
Go to the window, bring down the sash...
And smash her noisy head!

Before you cry and fuss and fret
That mockingbird is not dead yet.
She saw my intent and chose not to stay
But beeped like a micorwave, and flew away.

When we lived overseas, we used to be awakened daily (and early!) by a flock of common mynas scratching on our tin roof, as well as making a croaking racket. I think they must be related to mockingbirds, though your bird sounds like it might be slightly more pleasant.
